Portree (Isle of Skye) Scotland

During our one week stay in Fort William, we travelled to Inverness and Isle of Skye. We visited the largest town in Skye - Portree. The journey from Fort William to Portree was awesome. Nature at its best. We passed through Kyle of Lochalsh on our way to Portree.

Portree with a population of around 2500 people is the largest town in Skye and home to the only secondary school on the island. It is a small town and everything is within a walking distance.

The Portree harbour is lovely and so is the Shingle beach. The harbour is surrounded by high cliffs. You can see lots of fishing boats and pleasure yatches moored there. You can hire bikes and go around the town or opt for boat cruises that promise sightings of the rare sea-eagles.

There is one set of colourful brightly painted buildings near the harbour which have featured in numerous calendars and posters. They add a pop of colour to the surroundings.

Though we didn't stay overnight in Portree, we found out from the Visitor Centre that there is a wide range of accommodation options - guest houses, B&Bs, upmarket hotels, campsites and even hostel accomodation. So you can take your pick. One of the camping sites that we came across was:
