Five Fabulous Gift Ideas for Outdoor Enthusiasts

Know someone who loves the outdoors? I am sure you do. Whether they’re serious hikers, casual campers, backpacking tourists or just someone who likes to be outside, these handy and affordable products are sure to make excellent gifts and keep them prepared for their outdoor adventures.

LifeSaver Liberty Water Bottle

One of the most important things while out and about in the outdoors (especially in the wilderness) is staying hydrated. And no one wants to lug around litres of water while out hiking. And this is where the LifeSaver Liberty water bottle - which can remove 99.99% of viruses & cysts and an even higher percentage of bacteria - literally becomes a 'lifesaver'.

LifeSaver products are manufactured in the UK and their unique filtration technology is said to filter unreliable municipal water supplies, rainwater and even water taken directly from lakes and rivers allowing the user to make clean safe water.

LifeSaver Liberty Water Bottle

According to LifeSaver

LifeSaver products are portable water filters that are pressurised with a hand pump. This air pressure forces water through the pores of an ultrafiltration cartridge and out through the exit nozzle leaving microbiological contamination behind. LifeSaver filtration technology provides a physical barrier against viruses, bacteria, and cysts. No chemicals or electrical power is required.

This makes the bottle an excellent item to have in the kit for hikers, campers, backpackers or just about any traveller.

Some key features of the LifeSaver Liberty

- Independently tested to exceed full NSF/ANSI P231 and WHO2011 ‘Highly protective tier’ drinking water standards
- Comes with 5ft Scavenger Hose for drawing water directly from the source which means it provides easier access to water and you can filter larger volumes in one go. Also has the ability to filter directly into additional containers
- Replaceable Activated Carbon Disc for removal of chlorine, taste, and odour
- FailSafe technology: Once the filter membranes are blocked, water can not pass through, keeping users safe
- No chemicals or electricity required
- No strenuous sucking or pressing required
- Easy to use Flow Valve to control the flow rate
- SteriTouch® antimicrobial materials used
- Product materials and water effluent both BPA and BPS free

LifeSaver Liberty Water Bottle

The bottle has been constructed nicely, feels sturdy and is leak proof. You have to follow the instructions provided in the box to 'prime' the bottle before first using it. Thereafter it is simple to use. Not only does it do the intended job but it also helps reduce plastic waste as you do not have to buy water bottles while out travelling. It is a brilliant idea and not only would I recommend it to hikers and wild campers but to anyone looking for a portable water filter.

LifeSaver® Liberty is priced at £89.99 and has a 400ml capacity and can filter up to 2,000 litres of water. Replacement filter cartridges are sold separately.

Varta Power Bank 16000

A portable charger would make a very practical and welcome gift for campers/hikers. A portable power supply while in the outdoors ensures that your smartphones, tablets or other devices are always up and running. The type of portable power device one needs would depend on a number of factors like how much power do you need, what do you intend to use the power for and whether you are headed backpacking or car camping. The size and weight of the device are of the utmost importance for backpackers and the Varta Power Bank 16000 is one of the best portable power devices for backpacking and camping. It is small, lightweight and holds enough power to recharge up to 6 phones or 3 tablets per charge.

Other highlights include the ability to charge 2 devices at once, an integrated LED flashlight and a 5 LED battery gauge for charge & discharge indication.

This power bank has been with us on most of our outdoor adventures - be it our boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads or our glamping break at Wigwam® Holidays Brampton - and we cannot recommend it enough.

  2. The powerbank is definitely my favourite from the list. I'm not much of an outdoor person, but I always need a fully charged battery! I'd use the bottle probably for the gym!

  4. With these items on this list, I feel like I would be ready to take on the outdoors and anything that comes my way! I love camping and hiking but my nomadic lifestyle means I haven't had much time. I love the idea of the LifeSaver Liberty and would have even liked something like this in SE Asia where I couldn't get water refills instead of buying bottle water.

    1. Lifesaver Liberty is an excellent and easily portable filtration device and the ideal choice for any situation where clean drinking water is absolutely vital. And it is perfect while travelling to places where access to fresh, clean water is not always possible.
