Park Plaza London Waterloo - A modern, 4-star hotel in Central London

London well deserves its status as the top city in the UK to be visited by international visitors. According to the latest research, London welcomes more than 25 million visitors a year! And in the heart of London, just a short walk away from the city's top attractions, including the London Eye, the London Dungeons and the Imperial War Museum is the newly opened Park Plaza Waterloo hotel. The four-star hotel could be the one for you if you are looking for a hotel with modern touches and a fantastic location to explore London. We stayed here during our recent trip to London and loved it.

Character

The modern hotel spanning 12 floors is home to 494 stylish guest rooms, an all-day dining restaurant & bar - Florentine, illy café, a fitness centre and the relaxing Mandara Spa. All throughout the hotel, the decor is modern and stylish. Light has been used as a key element of the overall design thus contributing to the mood and atmosphere of the rooms and other public spaces. The guest rooms are equipped to make use of responsive technology with systems that control everything from the lights to the blinds. We liked the modern decor and facilities.

The Room

You can choose from three types of rooms at Park Plaza Waterloo - Superior rooms, Studio rooms and the one-bedroom Suites. We stayed in one of the studio rooms on the 12th floor and it was fantastic. The room had a very modern feel to it, was stylishly decorated and had all the amenities one could need for a comfortable stay.

Amenities included a minibar, coffee & tea facilities, work desk, laptop-size safe, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, 48-inch LED smart TV and free Wi-Fi. Air-conditioning, mood lighting and blackout curtains; all controlled at the touch of a button were also provided.

The bathroom was clean and spacious with a walk-in shower. Bathrobe, slippers and Elemis toiletries were provided.

The highlight of the room though was the floor-to-ceiling window offering a beautiful view of the London skyline.

Food and Drink

Florentine is an all-day dining restaurant that serves an eclectic mix of freshly made dishes. The menu offered a good selection of dishes; even for us vegetarians. The portion sizes were good and the food well-cooked and nicely presented. The service was great. The waiters were helpful without being intrusive.

Our starters included Gaeta green olives, wild mushroom soup and egg white omelette with Spinach & Goat's cheese. For the mains, we tried baked Shakshouka & Duck egg (with aubergine, peppers, tomatoes, courgettes & parsley) and Wild mushrooms, Ricotta & Triffle flatbread; both of which were excellent. The flatbread was very filling and the Shakshouka beautifully seasoned and packed full of flavour. The desserts were equally delicious - a luscious blueberry cheesecake and a selection of ice cream & sorbet.

Overall, good food, good service, excellent atmosphere and reasonably priced food. The restaurant offers good breakfast options too. The only downside is that it can get very busy during the breakfast service.

I really want to visit London & do the tourist thing but I spent ages looking at hotels on websites but couldn't decide which would be OK, but I'll be taking note of the detials for this for when I visit. It's also on par with other places I looked at regarding price.
