Beechfield House : A beautiful cosy hideaway in Wiltshire

Beechfield House in Wiltshire is a beautiful country house hotel that seamlessly blends the old and new together. Beechfield was built in 1878 for a local farmer named Richard Keevil and remained a family home for nearly ninety years until it was converted into a hotel and renamed as Beechfield House.

Built in an Italianate square house style, this Grade II listed property has undergone a number of improvements and refurbishments transforming it into a luxury country house hotel. But it has managed to maintain a cosy, homely air. The luxury family hotel with its AA rosette restaurant is elegant, full of warmth and personality.

The hotel has 24 good-sized bedrooms each one furnished in a unique style. Some of the rooms are situated in the original part of the country house while some are located in the attached coach house. Some of the rooms have four-poster beds while others are more contemporary in style. But all are comfortably furnished and most offer beautiful views of the garden, woodland or the front lawn.

Comfy room

We stayed in one of the Comfy rooms. These are large rooms situated in the main house and offer good views of the garden. The room was spacious and had a contemporary open pencil post super king size four poster bed. I could not resist a quick snooze on the bed as soon as we arrived. There was also a luxurious sofa bed and the room was equipped with all mod cons expected of a luxury room - 39" Digital Smart TV, Blu Ray DVD player, Roberts radio, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, a small safe, and tea & coffee making facilities.

The ensuite bathroom was spotlessly clean and stocked with Temple Spa toiletries. Pure Egyptian cotton dressing gowns and fluffy towels were in place.

Pool, gardens and beauty salon

The hotel grounds are well maintained and are beautiful to stroll around. I loved the outdoor pool - perfect location to spend the day, relaxing with a book or just soaking up the sun. Beechfield House also offer a range of beauty treatments in their in-house 'Treatment Room'. Included in the treatment list are massages, aromatherapy and reflexology treatments, manicures, pedicures and waxing and a range of body envelopments and skincare treatments. Booking in advance is recommended for these.

Dining

We enjoyed our dinner at Beechfield House's AA Rosette restaurant. For the starters, I opted for Celeriac veloute with crisp Melba toast and autumn leaf salad. It looked lovely and was wonderfully creamy and comforting. For the main course, both myself and the husband chose Pappardelle pasta with apple and basil pesto and green vegetables. As expected this was hearty comfort food. The flavour was lovely and the portion size very generous. For the final course, the husband went with a selection of homemade Beechfield House ice cream and sorbet while I decided to try the Hazelnut sponge with caramelised white chocolate, plum jelly and plum ice cream which was beautifully paired with some berries. The presentation was lovely and the dessert wonderfully delicious.

All the dishes we sampled were presented nicely and showcased high quality cooking skills. The restaurant staff were friendly, made us feel relaxed and interacted with all the guests equally nicely.

When we returned to our room after dinner, we were pleased with the turndown service. In addition to the 'turning down' of the bed linen and preparing the bed for our use, the staff member had replenished the hospitality tray and had turned on the radio. So when we entered the room it was to beautiful relaxing music on the radio. How very thoughtful! Little things like this made our stay more enjoyable.

Like I mentioned earlier, we stayed in one of the Comfy rooms. The bed was comfortable and it was peaceful in the night, which meant we had a very restful night's sleep.

Breakfast, the next morning, was in the same restaurant. We were seated at a table near the window. After ordering a pot of coffee, we went to grab some pastries, yoghurt and fresh fruits from the buffet table. The cooked breakfast order was taken promptly and soon we were enjoying a hearty breakfast.

Places to visit

Beechfield House is ideally located to visit a lot of cultural and scenic attractions. The World Heritage Site of Bath is less than half an hour’s drive while the market town of Cirencester (often referred to as the Capital of the Cotswolds) is just 40 minutes away.  Bradford-on-Avon, Castle Combe, Calne and Longleat Safari Park are also within easy reach and are well worth a visit. The hotel offers a Longleat Special Break which is quiet popular among visitors.

Castle Combe

Nearby are a number of National Trust properties including Stourhead (one of England's greatest landscape gardens), Dyrham Park (ancient deer park, 17th-century house and formal gardens) and Great Chalfield Manor (a charming 15th-century manor house).

Summing it up

Beechfield House is relaxed, elegant and welcoming. The comfortable bedrooms, leisure facilities (a sparkling pool and beauty treatment room) and wonderful dining - all make Beechfield House a great place for relaxation and pampering. We enjoyed our stay.
