Wigwam Holidays | Luxury Glamping‎ in Hampshire

We love a good holiday. Both I and my husband enjoy exploring new places and have been lucky enough to visit many beautiful locales within the UK in the last few years. Two weekends back we headed to Hampshire for a relaxing glamping break at Chawton Park Farms. Our glamping experience was arranged by Wigwam Holidays. We had never stayed in a Wigwam before and were looking forward to it. And it certainly did not disappoint. We had a lovely weekend in Hampshire (under 2 hours away from home) enjoying some quiet walks and doing a bit of sightseeing.

Wigwam Holidays

Wigwam Holidays offer glamping breaks in over 70 stunning locations across the UK. Glamping combines the beauty and fun of the great outdoors with the comforts that one would associate with a home. These breaks are perfect for nature lovers, adventure seekers and also those who are seeking a peaceful retreat. Wigwams are timber cabins that are perfectly suited for glamping holidays. I instantly fell in love the wigwam when I saw it first.

Wigwam Holidays can be found at numerous unique locations across the UK - from Cornwall on England’s south-western tip to Bower in the Scottish Highlands and from the picturesque Isle of Skye to the rugged and secluded Shetland Islands. We opted for Chawton Park Farms in Hampshire.

Chawton Park Farm

Chawton Park Farm is a working farm set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. The farm, located in the village of Chawton, fringes numerous acres of open access forestry, a broad network of country walks and also the National Cycleway. The site has 6 deluxe en-suite Wigwams set in a small orchard surrounded by mature woodland. I loved the names given to these wigwams - Woodpecker, Barn Owl, Swallow, Skylark, Kestrel and Goldfinch. Our wigwam for the stay was Woodpecker.

Deluxe En-suite Wigwam

The wigwam was finished to a high standard and included a double bed and a double sofa bed with luxury memory foam mattresses. The en-suite facilities were good. The wigwam had a small kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, two hotplates and sink. Dining table and chairs were also provided. Electric heating was provided and for entertainment there was a flat screen TV with DVD player. The wigwam was fantastic - it was spacious, had heating facility (we did not use it much though as the wigwam was warm even without the heater on) and was equipped with all that you would need for camping and more.

We had asked for the double bedding pack which included 2 pillows with cases, fitted sheet, duvet and cover and all this had been delivered to the wigwam before our arrival.

Outside, each wigwam had its own private decking area with a picnic bench. Fire pit/BBQ was also available. Extras like Fire Pack and Marshmallow Toasting Kits could be ordered separately.

We wandered around the farm site to explore for a while. The farm is split up into fields with some being grazed by sheep and others used as deer paddocks. We spotted the deer herd from afar and the shy animals bounded off as we walked closer.

This is a family run business and the owners Ian and Helen Robertson live nearby. We met Helen during our stay and she was friendly and welcoming. On Day 2 we had a slight issue with the shower in our wigwam. When we bought the issue to Helen's notice, she had the shower checked and then arranged for us to be moved to another available wigwam. I liked the fact that the owners were readily available to help.

There is currently no Wi-Fi access on the site but this might change in the future. The wigwam site was set up at Chawton Park Farm just a couple of months back and I think there will be many improvements and new features added as time goes by.

The six wigwams were situated close together and we were a little worried if we would get a good night’s sleep. Thankfully none of our neighbours were overly boisterous and we enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the farm setting.

Out and About

There are lots of things to see and do nearby. Jane Austen's House and Museum are just a few minutes away from the farm. Gilbert White’s House which is home to The Oates Collections is around 10 minutes away by car. For nature lovers, Alice Holt Forest is just 7 miles away. The forest has walking and cycling trails and also Go Ape. The cathedral city of Winchester is also a short drive away and makes for a perfect day out. You could also use the farm as a base and explore New Forest and South Downs National Park.

And that gets us to the bottom line - will we be back? Yes, we definitely will! This was our first wigwam holiday and we loved the experience. The farm setting was tranquil and the wigwam was brilliant - well insulated and packed with everything you need for a holiday. It was basically all the excitement and fun of camping minus the hassle! We would definitely do it again.

  1. I have always fancied hiring a cabin as I've noticed them when camping in a tent. They look really cosy and seem to have everything you need x
