The Eiffel Tower in Paris

The Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid monument in the entire world. It is also the most famous landmark in Paris and is 121 years old. It is named after Gustave Eiffel who built it for the 1889 Exposition Universelle (celebration of the 100th anniversary of the French revolution). It was built in around 2 years and 2 months and was (and remains even today) an engineering marvel.

The tower has 3 levels which the visitors can visit. The first and second levels can be accessed by stairs or lifts. The first level takes 300 steps to reach and the second level is another 300 steps from there. The topmost level is only accessible by lift. Its a must visit as the views from the top are awesome.

There are 3 lifts that will take you to the 1st and 2nd floors. You can also use the stairs to climb upto the 2nd floor. To reach the top you need to change lifts at the 2nd floor. The topmost floor if formed of two levels - one is open air and the other is roofed. But views from both are amazing.

The topmost floor also has the restored office of Gustave Eiffel. Amazingly life like models show Eiffel and his daughter welcoming Thomas Edison.

If you fancy a meal atop the Eiffel Tower, you will not be disappointed. There are 2 restaurants - Le 58 tour Eiffel(located on the 1st floor) and Le Jules Verne, several Buffets and even a Champagne bar.

YOu will find souvenir shops on the first and second floors and also at the pillar entrances on the ground floor. These shops stock keychains, tableware, Eiffel tower miniatures, clothing and a lot more...

The Eiffel Tower is open every day of the year from 9am to midnight (during 17 June - 18 August) and from 9:30am to 11pm during the rest of the year. Please check before visiting though.
