When to visit

Spring and autumn are good times for city breaks, sightseeing and walking. Summer can be very hot, especially in southern and inland Spain. Coastal areas are busiest during the main summer holidays.

Getting around

Spain has a good rail network connecting many major cities. Local trains, metros and buses make it easy to travel around cities such as Barcelona. Booking long-distance trains in advance can help you find better prices.

Driving in Spain

Traffic drives on the right. Motorways are generally good, although some routes may have tolls. Check parking rules carefully in towns and cities, as central areas may have restrictions.

Money and language

Spain uses the euro. Cards are widely accepted, but it is useful to carry some cash for small purchases. Spanish is spoken across the country, while regional languages such as Catalan are also widely used.
