Beechurst Serviced Apartments in Cheltenham

A few weeks back, Bhavin and I took a trip to Cheltenham. We had planned on doing a couple of walking trails in Gloucestershire and a little sightseeing in Cheltenham as we had never visited the city before. Unfortunately, Storm Eunice decided to arrive at the same time. The storm was intense with heavy winds and rain and we couldn't do as much as we had intended to but we did manage to explore a bit and it was lovely. We will be back in Cheltenham again.

Our stay in Cheltenham was at Beechurst Serviced Apartments which is a family run business. Co-owner Angie Petkovic has been in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry for many years now and has previous experience of running a hotel for over 16 years! It is this experience that helped Angie and her team achieve 4-star Silver quality in tourism rating for the serviced apartments.

Housed in a converted Victorian farmhouse, Beechurst currently has three self-catering units available to book, with two more to be completed in the coming months. All the apartments are named after prominent historical figures from Cheltenham.

We stayed in Holst which is named after Gustav Holst, the English composer, born in Cheltenham in 1874 and best known for his orchestral suite 'The Planets'.

Holst is a one-bedroom apartment with an en-suite bathroom, a fully-fitted kitchen and a relaxing living area. It is located on the first floor and features high ceilings, original sash windows and has been refurbished to an excellent standard.

When we entered the apartment, we were very pleased with how nicely the space had been done up. It was immaculately clean, the style was functional yet chic and it offered the perfect combination of a hotel experience with the freedom of private accommodation.

The décor while being modern was inspired by the Regency era of Holst's birth and featured colour palettes and subtle accents that created a connection to Holst's time.

The living area had a comfortable sofa, smart TV and a cosy dining table for four.

The kitchenette had all the facilities to make our own meals. It was fully fitted and equipped with a hob, oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwave. If you prefer not to cook, you can take advantage of the numerous takeaway options nearby.

The bedroom had a comfy double bed and bedroom furnishings including a full-size wardrobe.

The en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower was clean and everything was pristine, almost like new.

All apartments have access to a shared laundry space that includes a washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and iron.

All the apartments plus the shared hallway and laundry spaces have AIRsteril units installed.  AIRsteril units combine sterilising, cleaning, and purifying technologies, including germicidal UV light and dual UV operation to deliver sterilisation and purification in the air and on surfaces. It helps improve the air quality and eliminates mould. We thought this was an excellent initiative by Beechurst to keep their guests and staff safe.

Beechurst Serviced Apartments are also making several significant efforts to reduce their environmental impact, both in the guest apartments and behind-the-scenes.
  • All the apartments are powered by electricity (from a fully renewable provider) and they have even installed solar panels that have reduced the building's energy requirements by almost 40%.
  • Keeping in line with the 'reduce, reuse and recycle' ethos, Beechurst opt for eco-packaging, low-packaging, and bulk-purchasing when buying their supplies. Recycling bins with proper signage and instructions are placed in all apartments to encourage the proper disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.
  • Where possible, the furniture and furnishings in the apartments have been sourced from reclaimed materials, upcycled or bought from vintage suppliers.
  • They use non-toxic, naturally-derived cleaning products.
  • The sheets, duvet covers, mattress protectors and towels are all 100% organic cotton from certified sustainable sources. The duvets and pillows are made of recycled hollow fibre and OEKO-TEX 100 certified improving the guests' experience.

It was good to learn about these steps that Beechurst is taking to operate in a sustainable manner.

Overall, the apartment (Holst) was beautifully designed, well kitted out and is perfect for two people. It has everything that you would expect in a hotel but with added privacy making it a great choice for couples breaks as well as for business travel. We enjoyed our stay and I am sure you will as well.
