The Wheelhouse B&B in Martock, Somerset
After a short break in Wales staying at Wigwam® Holidays Aberystwyth, we were to head to Cornwall for the next part of our holiday and our stopping point for the night was Somerset. After some online search, we picked The Wheelhouse in Martock (Somerset).

The Wheelhouse B&B is a part of Gawbridge Mill with the river Parrett flowing under the building! Run by a couple, Lynda and Tony Holliss, the building dates back to the 18th Century and the mill was fully functional until the 1960s.
Some of the old workings like the water wheel, the winches, grinding stones etc. are still in place. But today it is more of Lynda & Tony's cosy home where a warm welcome awaits all guests.
We had the 'Time Together' Experience Box from Buyagift and it had a nights' stay for two at The Wheelhouse listed as one of its experiences. So, I used the contact details provided by Buyagift and got in touch with Lynda to make our booking.
Included in our experience was an overnight stay in a double room with The Wheelhouse's speciality breakfast in the morning.
The room that we stayed in was cosy and quirky. With honey-coloured hamstone walls and a traditional wrought iron double bed covered handmade quilt, the room had all amenities that a guest might need - TV, DVD, hair dryer and a hospitality tray. Fresh flowers and a selection of books made a lovely addition to the room.
The room was a good size and uniquely decorated with many personal touches. It wasn't en-suite; but had a private shower room.
The owners, Lynda & Tony, were friendly and welcoming. They share the home with three dogs and we met one of them who was also very friendly - a gentle giant.
The best part of the stay was the breakfast. Lynda previously worked as a trained chef and that experience reflected in the delicious, homemade breakfast we were served.
Breakfast included a selection of fresh fruit, fruit juices, cereals, preserves and home made bread. For the cooked breakfast, we opted for the vegetarian version of the English breakfast which included fried eggs, Glamorgan sausages, mushrooms, baked beans, hashbrowns and spinach fry. Everything was freshly made and delicious - perfectly seasoned, packed with flavour and filling. It set us up for the day.
While we only stayed overnight en route to Cornwall, there are lots of things to see and do locally. You could go cycling, walking or bird watching in the Somerset countryside. The B&B is also within easy travelling distance of Bath, Cheddar, Longleat, Blackdown Hills AONB and National Trust's Stourhead Gardens.
Overall, we had a comfortable and lovely stay and would happily recommend The Wheelhouse B&B if you are looking to get away on a rural break in Somerset.
We booked the stay using Buyagift's Time Together Experience Box but you can also book directly with The Wheelhouse.
