Mountain Hardwear Women's Exposure/2 Gore-Tex Paclite Plus Jacket | Gear Review

If you are looking to invest in a waterproof jacket for your travels or outdoor adventures, there are a number of factors to take into consideration before making your purchase.

Aside from its waterproof abilities, you need to look at the jacket's build quality, the fabrics used in construction, the design & cut, the fit & comfort level, its weight and features like adjustable drawcords, zipped pockets etc. And then there is the price factor. A quick search will show you that there are jackets for as less as £20 and the more expensive and technical ones priced at hundreds of pounds. You will need to analyse what features of the jacket are the most important (to you) and suited to your outdoor pursuits before buying.

Mountain Hardwear's Exposure/2 Gore-Tex Paclite Plus Jacket

The Exposure/2 Gore-Tex Paclite Plus jacket from Mountain Hardwear is a 2.5-layer waterproof, breathable and light-weight jacket packed full of features designed to deliver next-to-skin and excellent protection from the rain.

One of the brand's new offerings, the jacket is available in three colours - Dark Storm (featured), Light Dunes and Washed Turq and has a stylish design. But it is not all style, the jacket packs in a lot of substance too.

The fabric is undoubtedly one of the key features in outdoor waterproofs and this jacket from Mountain Hardwear makes use of the very packable and light-weight Gore-Tex Paclite Plus fabric. It has excellent waterproof abilities and at the same time is very breathable. Plus it is a windproof fabric. All these features ensure that the jacket does its job well whether you are walking in the countryside or hiking in the hills.

The fabric and the construction (fully seam-sealed, drop-tail hem, brimmed hood with adjustable drawcord, loop adjustable cuffs) all help to keep the water out.

Other useful features of the Exposure/2 Gore-Tex Paclite Plus include polyurethane-coated zippers for added water resistance, full-length tricot-lined draft flap to prevent cold air entering inside, concealed hem cinch, harness compatible chest pocket + two hand pockets and articulated shoulder seams. All these add to the jacket's high-performance style.

I like my jackets to have a comfort fit - not very tight and not very loose either. And the Exposure/2 Gore-Tex Paclite Plus jacket has a comfortable, standard fit which means it can be worn easily over base and mid-layers without any discomfort or without it restricting movement.

The women's jacket is available in sizes ranging from XS to XL.

Another feature that I like is that the jacket doesn't weigh much and doesn't take up much space which is a key factor while travelling. I have the jacket in Medium (size) and it weighs around 236gms! Plus it packs down into its own pocket for compact storage, making it perfect to carry in a backpack while travelling.

Having worn the jacket over the past two months on several occasions, I have been impressed with it so far. It is very comfortable, breathable, offers good freedom of movement, great weather protection and looks & feels real good. It is pricey (RRP £315) but with an impressive set of features and excellent build quality ensuring a long lifespan, this is a good investment to make.

I can't wait to put it to use on our Wales adventure holiday once we are able to travel.
