Located just around the corner from St James' Park underground station is St Ermin's hotel. Part of the Autograph Collection of hotels, St Ermin's is a four-star, boutique hotel that boasts of a unique location. It is close to London's top attractions (St James’s Park and Green Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey etc.) but still feels like it is set in a peaceful and serene world of its own. As we walked up the hotel's beautiful tree-lined courtyard it was difficult to believe that we had stepped off the tube just a few minutes back.

The Garden Afternoon Tea at St Ermin's

St. Ermin’s Afternoon Tea takes the season’s signature ingredients and showcases them in a selection of sweet and savoury delicacies.

When the afternoon tea arrived, it looked fabulous. Served on a three-tier cake stand (that looked like a vintage birdcage) with beautiful china, the first tier consisted of a selection of sandwiches. We had opted for the vegetarian version and the selection included Egg mayo & cress, Cucumber, mint & chive, Goat’s cheese, tomato & basil, Carrot & raisin with mint, coriander & houmous and Cheddar, pickle & watercress. The sandwiches were fresh, with balanced flavours and paired well with the teas that we had selected.

St Ermin's afternoon tea includes a selection of Newby teas featuring teas like Green Sencha, Jasmine blossom, Oriental Sencha, Earl Grey, Lapsang Souchong, Darjeeling etc. We opted for Masala Chai - a spiced Indian tea that is traditionally boiled directly in milk and Fujian Oolong - also known as Tieguanyin, this is a premium variety of Oolong tea that originated in the Fujian province of China.

Next up, it was the scones. They were brought to the table when we were ready. Two scones for each of us - one plain scone and one fruit scone - with clotted cream and homemade jam. The mini scones were perfect! Freshly made, light and meltingly soft.  And the portions of clotted cream and jam were generous and delicious!

Then it was the turn of the mouth-watering selection of sweet treats which made up the second and third tier of the cake stand.

- Wye Valley rhubarb and custard verrine: It was lovely! A great combination of flavours and such a yummy summer dessert. This was my personal favourite.
- Passion fruit and coconut éclair: Now, I am not a big fan of passion fruit, but I loved this sweet treat. The distinctive sweetness of coconut perfectly complemented the tart sweetness of passionfruit. One bite and I was transported to the tropics.
- Raspberry, rose and vanilla sable: Loved how the different textures and flavours came together.
- Milk chocolate and salted caramel layered pots: A classic combination presented in a very beautiful way. This was Bhavin's favourite!
- Chocolate and vanilla mousse.

  1. What a fab afternoon tea! We have some really lovely afternoon tea venues here in Bristol and I have been to most of them. Would love to try out some in London.
