    1. The Azores is known for its Hydrangeas. In mid-summer Hydrangea bushes pop all over the island and along every other road. The colourful blooms are a feast for the eyes.

The Azores is beautiful all round the year but if you want to see the wild Hydrangeas in full bloom then the best time to visit is July - August.

    1. I would recommend that you hire a car to explore the island as it will offer more flexibility and allow you to visit places that you may miss otherwise. My top picks would be the main lakes (Sete Cidades, Lake Fogo and the lake in Furnas), Terra Nostra Botanical gardens, Mosteiros(for its beach and stunning cliffs), whale watching and Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeiroes (especially the hike through the woods). There are numerous 'miradouros' (view points) all over the island and you are sure to find stunning views whichever route you take. We also liked some of the beaches in Ribeira Grande.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday to the Azores.
