It is a misconception that vegan food is boring. With branches in Covent Garden, Oxford Circus, One Tower Bridge and The O2, by CHLOE's 100% vegan and plant-based menu features dishes that are packed with flavours. The menu is free of meat, dairy and egg products and contains no saturated animal fats either.

by CHLOE arrived in the UK (from the USA) around two years back and has seen exciting growth since then. Their first restaurant opened in Covent Garden and that is where we went the past weekend to try out their popular vegan fast food.

On the menu, you will find comforting fast food like burgers, fish n chips, mac n cheese, sandwiches and salad bowls. There are some other exciting offerings on the menu as well like the 'Gado Gado' salad (peanut, ginger/turmeric tempeh, kale, roasted tenderstem, purple cabbage, corn, bean sprouts, tofu crema), 'Quinoa Taco' (chopped romaine, spicy seitan chorizo, black beans, sweetcorn, avocado, tomato, tortilla strips, tofu crema & agave-lime vinaigrette) and the newly launched 'The Club & The Cobb'.

As with any fast food restaurant, the ordering was easy and quick with the menu located prominently above the counter. It did take us some time to decide what to order and we finally went with Fish & Chips, the Guac Burger, Oh So Fancy Fries and some Sweet Potato Fries. Clementine and pomegranate lemonades were our drinks of choice.

Coming back to the food, the Guac burger was fantastic. With a black bean-quinoa-sweet potato patty and corn salsa, guacamole, tortilla strips, lettuce and chipotle aioli in a whole grain bun, the burger was not only flavoursome but also nutritious and left me full and satisfied. The perfect accompaniment to the burger was the delicious sweet potato fries.

Bhavin tried the Fish’n’Chips which consisted of crispy tofu served with a portion of fresh and very tasty mushy peas and thick-cut chips. There is usually a tartar sauce accompanying the dish but they had run out of it on that day and so we were offered a trio of other sauces. The crispy tofu was perfect and with mushy peas and sauces, it made for a scrumptious eat.

We also loved the 'Oh So Fancy Fries' which was air baked fries with spicy seitan chorizo, onions, chipotle aioli and cashew mozzarella.

For dessert, we tried the Banana Bread and Red Velvet Cupcake with the latter being moist, with the perfect texture and sweetness. One of the best and most authentic vegan Red Velvet cakes we have tried.

Overall, all the dishes we tried were creative and full of flavours. The ambience was good and the service great.

Whether you are consciously cutting animal products out of your diet, are a 'flexitarian' or simply want to try out veganism, by CHLOE's creative, plant-based menu is definitely worth a try.

by CHLOE also recently launched Fish Free Fridays to celebrate their much-loved vegan Fish’n’Chips. As a special offer, two can dine-in on Fridays for £14.50 for Fish’n’Chips plus a drink each, or 10% off one dish.

Note: In consideration of the recent developments due to COVID, by CHLOE has taken several steps to ensure the safety of their guests and staff. All the staff we encountered during our visit were wearing protective masks and gloves. There were social distancing markers throughout the restaurant, payments were being taken only by card and all cutlery & condiments are now only available on request. Seating in the restaurant had also been reduced and dine-in tables are now limited to a maximum of 6 guests at a time.

Big thanks to by CHLOE for inviting us to their Covent Garden restaurant. As always, all opinions are solely our own.
