Good vibe and great tapas at Tapas Revolution, Bath

Last weekend, while on a short break to Bath, we made our way to SouthGate shopping centre which is home to Tapas Revolution. The brainchild of celebrity chef Omar Allibhoy, Tapas Revolution serves authentic Spanish cuisine, all freshly prepared. In addition to Bath, Tapas Revolution also has restaurants in Birmingham, Bluewater, Newcastle, Sheffield, Shoreditch and Westfield.

When we arrived at the restaurant in the afternoon, it was already beginning to get busy. Upon entrance, we were greeted warmly by the waitress who knew of our reservation and escorted us to our table. After a quick explanation of how the restaurant works, the waitress left us to peruse the menu. The menu is divided into seafood, meat and vegetable sections along with some lunch offers and set menu deals. Us vegetarians had around 10 dishes to choose from and we were happy with the choice. We ordered a few dishes and as in any tapas restaurant, the little plates of food arrived one after the other in no particular order.

First to arrive were the Gazpacho de sandía (traditional chilled tomato soup with a watermelon twist) and Patatas bravas (roasted potatoes with spicy tomato sauce and alioli). The cold soup was refreshing and had a unique flavour. The roasted potatoes, a classic tapas dish, was as they should be: crisp and topped with a well-flavoured sauce. It could have been a little spicier, I felt.

Next, it was Tortilla de patatas (classic Spanish omelette with free-range eggs, potato and onion) and Berenjenas fritas con miel (crispy fried aubergine). The omelette was good but the most satisfying and delicious dish was the crispily fried aubergine. Served with a spiced honey and thyme dressing, the strips of aubergine were fresh, wonderfully crispy and nicely flavoured. We really enjoyed it.

We also ordered Pimientos de Padrón (fried sweet green peppers), a very simple dish but so delicious and moreish. To accompany the food we ordered a couple of non-alcoholic drinks - Rhubarb & Peach homemade juice and Morello Cherry & Ginger homemade juice topped with ginger ale. Both the drinks were refreshing.

We rounded off the meal with Churros con chocolate. The churros from Tapas Revolution were fabulous. They are cooked to order, so there was a wait of around 10 minutes but it was worth it! They were cooked to perfection - light, crispy, warm and served with a very delicious chocolate sauce for dipping. Yummy!

We enjoyed the food at Tapas Revolution and would definitely go back without any hesitation. The restaurant was spacious and stylishly furnished (there was even a real olive tree near one of the tables), the food was good and well presented, the staff friendly & the service fantastic, and the overall atmosphere very relaxed. If you are in Bath and find yourself hungry then head to Tapas Revolution for an authentic and casual, Spanish dining experience.
