The Menzies Strathallan Hotel in Birmingham - Hotel Review

The Menzies Strathallan Hotel in Birmingham is a good choice if you want to be close to the town. The hotel has an open plan layout on the main floor with the bar, restaurant and the lounge all visible from the reception. The lounge is perfect to relax in while enjoying drinks from the bar. The bar though not large is reasonably stocked.

There is a small gym near the lobby should you feel like exercising.

Breakfast is standard buffet fare and the dishes were warm and refreshed regularly with attentive staff on hand should you need them. Evening meals were good but I would have preferred more choice in the menu. That however does not take away from the fare on offer which was rather good both in terms of taste and presentation.

The room that we stayed in (Room 608) was spacious with a large comfortable bed, a working desk, a wall mounted television and a seating area. The room had all the necessary furnishings and also enough space to walk around comfortably without hitting anything. The one thing that I look for in a hotel room irrespective of its size is cleanliness and this one spotlessly clean. The room was tidied and toiletries restocked daily.

Our room, situated on the 6th floor, had plenty of natural light and was well ventilated as it was facing the outside of the building. There were few other nice touches in the room and factors of convenience, that made me love my stay. These include:
- enough plug points in the room
- reading lights
- trouser press
- convenient location of the hotel
- free wi-fi

The staff at this hotel are helpful, and have excellent customer service skills. Be it the reception staff, the cleaning staff or those in the restaurant, all of them were attentive and friendly.

The hotel is located on the main road and I was a bit worried about the noise at night. But surprisingly, it was quiet and we slept very well. An advantage of this location however is the fact that the bus stop was just outside the hotel making it very convenient to get into the town if you are not driving and rely on public transport. The hotel also provides free car parking.

Overall, we had a lovely stay at this hotel and it is value for money. Our room was spotless and had everything I needed. And the main features were the excellent location of the hotel(good bus connectivity) and the efficient and professional staff. The Menzies Strathallan Hotel in Birmingham city is a good choice both for the business traveller and for the tourists.
