Fairlop Waters Country Park in Redbridge

Located in the London Borough of Redbridge, Fairlop Waters is the largest Country Park and leisure facility in the area offering a range of facilities.

You can choose from Angling, Golfing, Driving, Windsurfing, bouldering and Sailing.

There is also a Nature Reserve with a nature trail.

Though there is evidence that suggests that Fairlop Waters is an Iron age settlement, its actual recorded history begins with its like as Royal Hunting Ground - a part of the Epping Forests.
In 1720s when the Fairlop land belonged to Daniel Day, a fair was held every year under the huge Fairlop Oak. Such was the size of the Oak tree that people used to picnic inside the tree's hollow trunk. In 1805 the tree burned down after it caught a spark.

In 1851 the forest was cleared and 3000 acres were levelled down and 1000 acres were laid out as the Fairlop Plain. However this destruction led to a public outcry and the current conservation movement was born. IN 1955 Ilford Council bought the land and in 1980s they began to develop the area as a country park, golf course and a sailing lake. What we see today is the result of that conservation and development. The 38 acre sailing lake is a major attraction today and is used fot learning and fun by the local community.

The park also has a new boulder area which has nine different outcrops used for bouldering and climbing activities. The boulders are of different shapes and sizes and cater to all kind of climbers. The nine boulders are - The Magical Mushroom, The Prominient Prow, The Arches, Dumbo the Elephant, The Enormous Roofed Block, Fairy's Cave, Twin Peaks, The Petit Block and the Final Boulder.

Fairlop Waters is a haven for wildlife all through the year. It attracts a wide range of species that are unique to London. You will find Great crested grebe, little grebe, Cananda goose, Grey Heron, Stock Dove and Meadow Pipit resident all year round. During winter Teal, Wigeon, Tufted Duck, Goldcrests, Green sandpiper and occasionally Siskin and Woodcock come visiting.

There is a large function hall available for hire. There is also a bar and seating area and a small function room also available for hire. The bar serves a range of beer, wines, soft drinks, tea and coffee.
